Ferryboat, Moorend near Bristol

Charles Branwhite A.O.W.S. 1817 - 1880

Painted in 1876, this is possibly an exhibition painting by the Bristol painter Charles Branwhite.

He was the son of N.C. Branwhite, the painter, and began his career as a sculptor. He studied painting first with his father and then with the celebrated W.J. Muller.

A resident of Bristol all his life, he was to become a good friend of two of Bristol's best know painters - Samuel Jackson and Francis Danby. A number of important public collections hold his work, including the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Bristol City Art Gallery.
